Chuck Close by visual-synthesis Chuck Close by visual-synthesis
This was a project in my computer applications in art class. I did a portrait of chuck close. All with the path tool, solid fill, no stroke or gradients. about 200 paths in his mustache. project is completely unfinished.

Beautiful. Did this come from the photo of the original? Curious about the process.

This is amazing, you got the shading perfectly. I'm doing portraits for gcse at the moment at school(also done this chuck close photo-realism painting), shame we weren't allowed to use computers, then you may have seen some competition from me ;), jokes, your awesome :D.

thanks. Yes it took a lot of hours. But it was finished in less then two weeks I believe. I just was working on it all the time. I was going to make it available for print but I've had people complain that is copyright infringement because it is based on a work of another artist. Despite the fact that I obviously credit Mr. Close for the design and only credit myself for the vectorization.
Thank you for your comments

Thanks. Chuck Close is an artist who got cancer, was paralyzed from the neck down, recovered partially and continued painting with a brace (go chuck!). Google his name and "big self portrait" if you'd like to see the painting this is based on. And go see his work if you get a chance, it's amazing!

He currently has a show at the High Museum of art in Atlanta.

I love the way its been done...its like the cut-out tool but good. The eyes are impressive, must've been a bitch to do.

I had a good look but can't really find any weak points on this.

Dang i widh i had your skill :P

I've got a program that makes magic eye pictures out of greyscale images. I thought yours might be a good thing to turn into magic eye.

It's a matlab application that you run, my dad's ex-PHD student programed it. You need to know how to use matlab to do it...which I dont. I'll ask my dad when he gets back from Belguim sometime soon.
